Amazon Readers Enjoy Seeing if the Theory is Borne Out in the Song Lyrics
(78 Beatles Songs are Analyzed) And Like the Chronological Approach
An Original the Beatles’ Songwriting Sources (Amazon U.S.)
Niccolini takes a novel approach to explaining the inspiration for much of the Beatles’ catalog. Formulating a theory based on biography, popular culture and psychology, she analyzes the majority of the songs through the prism she creates. While one can certainly argue with her conclusions, she deserves credit for thorough and original research and consistency in her approach. While not every song analysis rings true, the majority are insightful and certainly thought provoking.
Readers who are looking for something more than the usual shallow examination and blathering adulation found in most books on Beatles’ music will appreciate this book. The author’s early chapters require perseverance to comprehend her thesis, but in the end the reader’s patience is rewarded by a new perspective on the music that has provided the soundtrack of the past half-century.

What a Read! (Amazon U.S.)
I think this book is excellent because the thesis is very strong. Not knowing everything about what is surely a huge amount of literature interpreting and commenting on the Beatles, I find it impressive that Niccolini has a novel theory, and it’s compelling, on the strength of the evidence as she presents it.
Chapter Two is a bit challenging, because thinking about the Beatles songs is fun and stimulating, whereas psycho-pharmacological exposition is a sharp contrast. But it is worth it to get the insights.
Chapter Five also delves into history, but it integrates smoothly with the Beatles spearheading a cultural shift.
After reading this book, I hear the Beatles with fresh ears, and I might add, with renewed pleasure! I believe it’s a breakthrough in the crowded field of Beatles exegesis.
